Bumbershoot 2011

El Festival de Arte y Música de Seattle, Bumbershoot 2011 (del 3 al 5 de Septiembre de 2011 en el Seattle Centre), estuvo repleto de música y también de arte. Una de las exposiciones de artes visuales de las que disfrutó el evento fue el "Magic Show", comisariada por Kathy Lindenmayer. Posiblemente inspirada en una exposición exhibida en la galería Plattform (en la plaza Pioneer, Seattle)  en Julio de ese mismo año, llamada "Magicality" donde participaron 14 artistas de Seattle y sus alrededores nacionales, mientras que en el "Magic Show" participaron 6:
Bumbershoot 2011, Seattle Music & Arts Festival (September 3-5 at Seatle Centre), was plenty of music and also of art. One of the visual arts exhibitions that the event offered was the "Magic Show", curated by Kathy Lindenmayer. Likely it picked up on the exjibit shown in Plattform Gallery, (at Pioneer Square, Seattle) in July of that same year, named "Magicality" featuring 14 artist from Seattle and around the nation, whereas there were 6 in the "Magic Show":

El mago de la guerra / The war magician

'Jasper Maskeline estaba bebiéndose un vaso de cuchillas de afeitar cuando empezó la guerra.': un comienzo prometedor para una fabulosa novela. David Fisher publicó su libro en 1983 (2007 en su edición española)  y desde 2005 se oye en los mentideros que pronto se rodará la película protagonizada por Tom Cruise y dirigida por Peter Weir, aunque a día de hoy ni el actor ni el director están en dicho proyecto.

'Jasper Maskeline was drinking a glass of razor blades when the war started.': a promising beginning to a fabulous novel. David Fisher published his book on 1983 and, since 2005, gossips tell that the movie of the book would be shot soon, starring Tom Cruise  and directing Peter Weir, although up to now neither the actor nor the director are in the project.

El autor describe las proezas militares alcanzadas por el famoso mago británico Jasper Maskeline en el norte de África contra el Africa Korps sin empuñar un arma o ejercer algún tipo de violencia.

The author explains the military deeds achieved by the famous british magician Jasper Maskeline in the north of Afica against the Africa Korps without brandishing a weapon or exercising any kind of violence.

El mago en palacio / The magician at the palace

El artista representa una escena cortesana que tiene lugar en el transcurso de una gala palaciega que quiere estar ambientada en el reinado de Carlos IV. Los invitados atienden las evoluciones que ejecuta un ilusionista junto a su ayudante, pudiéndose ver por el suelo varios naipes y otros instrumentos de su oficio.

The artist depicts a court scene which takes place during a palace gala that wants to be set in the reign of Charles IV (of the House of Bourbon). The guests heed the performance of an ilusionist with his assistant; there can be seen on the floor several playing cards and other instruments of his job.

Sumida la escena en la intensa penumbra del interior palaciego, en la que destacan vivamente las figuras, Lucas Villaamil resalta así toda la brillantez de los trajes que lucen los personajes, de vivísimo colorido y lujoso diseño, que acaparan irremediablemente la atención del espectador.

Plunged in the intense semidarkness of the palace interior, in this scene the figures enhance keenly.   Lucas Villaamil brings out all the brilliance of the costumes, of very vivid colour and luxurious design, shown by the characters, which capture compellingly the observer's attention.
